First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at RA Sushi.
Server
The interview was pretty chill, not formal at all. The manager just talked to me about my past jobs, when I could work, and if I'm okay with things moving fast. They also told me what the job involves, the schedule, and what the team is like. It was about 15-20 minutes, felt like a chat, not an interview.
- What's your approach to dealing with a challenging customer when it's really busy?
Line Cook
It was a pretty basic interview process, where I had to show my knife skills and general kitchen skills for about an hour. It was shorter than the typical "stage" where most Japanese chefs would have me work a full day. Some other places make you work a full day for free as a "stage" to test your skills, but this was just one hour. The kitchen management was transitioning at the time, so the interviewer was a bit all over the place, but most of the practices were like any other Japanese restaurant.
- How many years have you worked as a cook?
- Are you in possession of a sanitation license?
- Could you describe your experience with Japanese cuisine?
Server
The interview was super chill and not stressful at all! Most of the questions were pretty basic and designed to ease you in. They asked standard questions about my personality and professionalism. There were also scenario-based questions that let the interviewer ask follow-up questions based on my responses. The whole thing was really quick, and I was invited back for a second interview, which led to a job offer. I ended up staying for five years before moving on for a better opportunity.
- As an animal, which one would you choose to be?
