Experience Designer
We started with a friendly greeting and some casual chat about my university life. Then, they gave an introduction to R/GA and what it's like to work there. After that, we moved on to a portfolio walkthrough with some questions.
- Walk me through your portfolio and ask questions about my approach and process.
- What would you do if you were given a lot of money for your project in your portfolio?
- How is your master's degree going?

They reached out to me because they were interested in my experience. The first HR interview was supposed to be 30 minutes after I said I was interested, but it got rescheduled twice due to time zone mix-ups. I asked for one reschedule because I had a meeting, and the interview was then cancelled and I never heard back. This was for a director-level role. I wasn't even asked for my availability, which is weird, how can you expect someone to be free instantly? Dodged a bullet here.

I went through two interview rounds, though scheduling made it drag on. The first was with two interviewers, we reviewed my portfolio, and it seemed to go well. I had to schedule a second round because the main decision maker couldn't make the first one. The second interview was pretty straightforward, no tough questions, but that's when they told me they had initially planned for a more junior person but would see if they could make it work. Then, nothing. I reached out to the three recruiters I'd been in contact with, and not one of them even sent a basic rejection email. Definitely one of my worst interview experiences.
- Could you discuss one of your creative projects?
- Would you be willing to design for a client in the XX industry?
