Quotient reached out to me with an intriguing email. My initial interaction was with the recruiter who contacted me. She was well-prepared, knew my background, and explained the company's needs clearly. It was an open discussion rather than a formal Q&A. She mentioned that the next step would be a meeting with the company president, which was scheduled within a week. The President and I had a conversational meeting where he asked insightful questions about my experience and also assessed my personality fit for the team. He provided clear and honest answers to my questions. I had specific requirements regarding my start date and interim responsibilities, and the company was very accommodating in meeting my scheduling needs. They were responsive to inquiries and provided resources for onboarding.

I saw a job post on a job board and they asked to be emailed directly. I sent the head of HR an email and was contacted right away to set up a phone screen. The phone screen was brief and touched on some of my background. They asked me to come in for an in-person interview. I was interviewed directly by 3 of their developers, very friendly. I usually feel tense during the interview process, but the questions were straight forward, and the interviewers were pretty disarming and casual. I then met with the head of HR, and he gave me an overview on what to expect, informed me that the Developers told him it went well, and I should hear back from them very soon. The next day I had an offer and a start date. The whole process from email to being hired took less than 5 days, uncommonly fast.

Companies might do things differently when they hire people, and what works best for you really depends on you. But, usually, a good hiring process has these steps: First, a quick phone chat to see if you have the skills they need. This saves everyone time and helps filter the applicants. Then, a skill test to check how well you can do the job. They might test your personality or how you'd fit in. After that, an in-person interview to really dig into your background and skills. They'll also tell you about how they work and the company culture. Finally, a group panel interview with people from different departments who might ask you questions about their specific areas. They might also ask you to do a presentation, like a slideshow or video, to show off your skills.

The whole thing took about two weeks from start to finish. The folks I talked to seemed genuine and knew their stuff, even sharing info about potential projects and what it's like to work there. After a quick chat on the phone, I went into the office to meet with the project manager. Then, I had a sit-down with three developers who came from different backgrounds. They went into detail about the job and figured out if I'd be a good fit for the company. I got a call on Monday with the offer.
