The interview was with someone who has the same job I applied for and said they've worked there for less than a year. The interviewer was late, then just talked about their background. They said they had to ask the standard questions and didn't seem interested in my intro, but said I could ask questions later. There were 4 basic questions total. It was awkward because after each answer, there was a long pause, and I had to ask 'hello?' to check if they were still there. When it was my turn to ask questions, I asked about company culture and they asked if I wanted their opinion or the company's. I was surprised because I thought they represented the company. If the employee and company have different views on culture, that's a bad sign, especially if they offered their personal opinion. The whole interview was 12 minutes. I felt like they didn't want to be there, and after talking to them, I didn't want to work there either.

I applied and then reached out to the recruiter at Quorum. The recruiter got back to me within a week to schedule an interview. The recruiter was good at explaining who I would meet for the first, second, and third interviews. However, when I was ready for my interview, the interviewer didn't show up. I waited for 30-45 minutes and then messaged the interviewer and recruiter on LinkedIn and Email. I got a response 30 minutes later saying the cancellation email might have gone to spam, and the interview was canceled because they had already found a candidate. I checked my email and spam folder and found nothing. I understand these are uncertain times, but professionalism dictates giving at least a few hours' notice for last-minute cancellations. Many respects.

The interview process involved three rounds of interviews and a writing sample. The first interview was over coffee, focused on learning about Quorum and assessing mission alignment. The second interview was over dinner, centered on cultural fit. The third interview was with the co-founder, serving as another informational session to confirm Quorum was a good fit. The team was flexible and accommodating with scheduling, and the process moved quickly, with interviews taking two weeks and the writing sample an additional week. Transparency was maintained throughout, making the process engaging. After the interviews, a writing sample was requested. I was given product access to explore features and then proposed 3-5 blog post ideas utilizing Quorum's data. One idea was selected, and I wrote a 500-word blog post. There was a brief period of waiting for feedback after the writing sample, which felt longer due to the speed of earlier communications. I was impressed that the interviewers didn't seem like typical salespeople but rather like policy enthusiasts who had found a better tool for their work, which was reassuring and a significant factor in my decision to join.
