Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Quora, Inc..
Product Designer
The entire interview process was exceptionally well-organized and friendly. It started with a recruiter call about Quora. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager to discuss a project and do an app critique. Next was a one-on-one technical interview covering CSS, vanilla JS, and React exercises. The final multi-step interview day included presenting my portfolio to the design team, a product whiteboarding exercise, an interaction design exercise, and an interview with the Head of Design. They did a good job preparing me and simplifying what could have been a stressful experience. Even though I didn't get an offer, they provided detailed feedback, which is rare in tech. They clearly prioritize a positive candidate experience.
- How do you handle problems that aren't clearly defined?
- Can you tell me about the tradeoffs you made in your project and why?
- Please provide an app critique.

I applied online and heard back from a recruiter via email after a few days. We did a portfolio review and then I was invited to a coding challenge session. I decided not to move forward because I wasn't interested in a design role that was so engineering-focused.
- What is your comfort level with coding?

I applied and got an email the next day to schedule an intro call with a recruiter. We chatted for about a half hour, and it was really nice. They set me up with a 45-minute interview with a designer where we talked about my experience. It was also great, I felt comfortable and enjoyed the conversation. A few days later, I had a coding interview. It was a 45-minute session to recreate a widget. I hadn't done a coding interview before and had trouble finishing it. I got sidetracked by trying to solve the problem and didn't explain my thinking clearly, even though the interviewer tried to help. A couple of days after that, I got a rejection email.
