Account Executive
First, a recruiter called, then I spoke with the hiring manager. After that, I had a peer interview with another AE. Finally, I did a sales presentation with a prompt for the VP of Sales and the hiring manager.
- Could you describe the sales methodologies you have employed previously and the main lessons you learned from them?
Strategic Account Executive
I had 7 interviews with them, and it was a complete waste of my time. I reached out to them, and they took about a month to respond. They initially spoke with me, and then some other team members, including the hiring manager, interviewed me. These interviews went okay, and then they asked me to read a Harvard Business Review article and create a presentation. I'm not a big fan of these types of exercises because candidates might come up with great ideas that the company could use without hiring or paying them. But, since it was after several interviews, I agreed. I spent a lot of time reading the HBR article (which seemed like a paid promotion for the company) and put together a detailed presentation on how I'd create a sales plan and sell their products based on the article's points. However, during the presentation, they stopped me after 5 minutes and said I didn't follow their instructions. Turns out, the initial contact never actually sent me their specific request, so I had to rely on my experience. They gave me a second chance after the original contact finally sent me their brief. I also had a meeting with the head of sales, which was rescheduled. I had to spend more time revising my presentation and was rescheduled for the following week. Right before the second presentation, my webcam broke, causing serious technical problems on my end. Despite this, I went ahead with the presentation, which also involved writing an email and voicemail script for them. I met with the head of sales again, and that also went fine. A week later, I got a rejection email saying I was competent but they found someone a slightly better fit. I emailed the original contact, who quickly replied and corrected the hiring manager's name (they had gotten it wrong in the rejection email). They said they'd get back to me with feedback, but it's been two weeks with no response. So, to sum up, 7 interviews, hours of prep and re-prep due to their mistake, and then ghosted. No offer. If you want to waste your time, Quickbase is the place. Other interviewees say they don't care about candidates, so consider that before applying.
