Account Sales Representative
I was contacted by the HR recruiter, even though I hadn't applied. I was curious, so I interviewed. First, HR, then a phone interview, and finally an in-person with the District Manager. Both went well. The next step was a panel of 4 experienced managers, including the regional sales manager. The district manager was supposed to be there but wasn't. They were all professional and warm. The last interview involved a PowerPoint presentation about myself and why I'm the best fit, plus a role-play with one of their products. I thought that went okay considering I'm not trained on their products. The regional manager said I'd hear back by the end of the week, which seemed positive. But then... nothing. No contact at all, not even a rejection email. The position is still open. It's unprofessional to ghost a candidate after 4 interviews, especially with so many people looking for jobs. I have a strong track record. It was also weird to ask for 5 professional references, including 2 managers. At my level, companies usually don't ask for that. Managers now are hesitant to break company policy due to layoffs and job security. The interview process itself was good until the very end. I'm giving it a negative because of the absolute lack of follow-up.

Account Sales Representative
Since I had a referral, the first meeting was a casual coffee chat about my personality, the company, the local market, and job expectations. After applying online, I had a basic HR phone interview to confirm my eligibility, job history, background, and learn about the hiring process. The hiring manager then called to explain the interview style and directed me to a video to prepare for a product presentation. Next, I had a panel interview with the hiring manager, his peer from another district, and an HR rep. The questions started basic, then focused on my business plan, how I'd use soft skills for this role, my goals, and my potential contributions beyond the job description. Lastly, I presented a current product to the hiring manager, acting as the customer. Although I didn't get the original position, I was offered a similar one by the peer manager.
- How will you handle this position, which is more challenging than your previous role where you were used to cruising by?
Sales Representative
Got contacted by an internal recruiter who had previously moved into sales. Then got contacted by their replacement. This person's follow-up skills were not great; I had to chase them multiple times to confirm appointment times. A phone interview was set up with the hiring manager, but they didn't send confirmation details. I had to follow up repeatedly for that too. The phone interview with the hiring manager went well, and I asked some closing questions. Then, I received a rejection letter from the internal recruiter with no explanation.
- What strategy would you use to pursue new business in a commodity market?
