Account Executive
It was a 3 stage interview process with two different directors. They answered a lot of my questions and were very interested in my experience rather than grilling me. Knowing about building a booking business and pipelining is important, as well as having a hunter's mentality.
- Can you share an example of when you successfully recovered a client account through customer service?
Account Executive
I was interviewing for an Account Executive role in Los Angeles. I have over 13 years of successful sales experience, consistently exceeding my goals. The process started with a phone interview with the hiring manager, which went well. Then I had a face-to-face interview with the hiring manager and the HR Director. The HR Director joined by phone while the hiring manager was present. My recruiter set this up. I felt the interview went perfectly, and I answered all questions in detail, impressing the hiring manager. I even demonstrated my closing skills by asking, 'Is there any reason why you can't make an offer to me today?', which the hiring manager seemed to appreciate. The HR Director responded that they needed to follow the process. I then attempted to 'close' them again by asking, 'Is there any reason why you can't invite me to the next interview?', framing it as a sales call. Unfortunately, I didn't get the next interview. My recruiter informed me they decided to pass, stating I was too aggressive, which I found surprising given the nature of sales. I felt the HR Director blocked the offer, potentially explaining why they struggle to fill the territory. I believe I would have been a great fit and done well in the role.
- Given your time in the Marine Corps, do you tend to wait for instructions or do you proactively take initiative?
Account Executive
First, I had an exploratory chat with an independent recruiter, which went well. The recruiter had some trouble setting up a follow-up call with the hiring manager, so I got permission to reach out directly. The hiring manager got back to me the same day and set up a 30-minute chat. That conversation ended right at the 30-minute mark, which seemed to be the end of the road. They had previously mentioned a second phone interview and possibly one or two in-person interviews.
- Was your largest sale a lead that was given to you by your boss?
