First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Queensland Health.
Registered Nurse
The interview process involved a group interview where we had to introduce ourselves and remember others' introductions. Then there was a 'Marshmallow and spaghetti' challenge to test teamwork and communication skills. This was followed by a documentation check and a personal interview focusing on common questions, not clinical knowledge.
- Introduce myself to the group, tell them the hobbies, why you are choosing MH nursing and skills want to master in mental health
- Memorize what my groupmate said during their introduction and then tell all people in the room
- Marshmallow and spaghetti - Use the tool provided to make the marshmallow at the top - Tools included: marshmallow, spaghetti, tape, scissors, red rope
Scientific Manager
They interviewed people but were clearly not interested in hiring someone from outside their organization. The follow-up questions showed they didn't believe someone from private industry could understand or manage the 'unique' challenges of a government department, even though these challenges are just slight variations of those in large private corporations.
- Regarding the role, what would be your approach, and what are your expectations for your contributions and achievements in the initial 6 months?
Healthcare Assistant
So, first there's usually a face-to-face or video chat with the hiring manager. They ask more detailed questions about your background, skills, and how you'd fit the job, like "Tell me about a time when..." to see how you'd deal with stuff. Then, you might have a panel interview where you meet several team members or leaders. The questions can get tougher, covering technical stuff, situations, and how you interact with people. This is also where they check if you'd vibe with the company culture. Finally, there's a round with senior folks or decision-makers. It's mostly about making a good final impression, cultural fit, and talking about your future goals.
- How do you handle stressful times?
- Can you share an example of a challenging situation you've faced?
- How do your skills and experience match the requirements of this position?
Medical Imaging Specialist
Got an interview offer within a week of applications closing. A week later, recruitment asked for a bunch of documents and identity checks. Two business days after that, I was officially offered the job. The interview was over Zoom with a panel of three people. They were all really nice and friendly, introduced themselves, but skipped the small talk and personal questions to get straight to the interview questions. There were 8 questions in total. Since it's a new grad role, 6 were scenario-based and related to the job, and 2 were about general conflict resolution and why I'd be a good fit.
- What makes you want to join our company and how do you see yourself fitting into the team?
- What are your thoughts on conflict resolution and why are you a good candidate for this role?
