Product Manager
It was more of a discussion than an interview. I was asked to present the outlook and current state of the VM market and steps to take forward. Along with 1 to 1 discussion with the team mates and the boss.
- What is your perspective on the future direction of marketing and the development of its capabilities?
Product Manager
I've had some really strange experiences with this company, three times now. The first two times, I was referred by someone, and the third time, their recruiter reached out. The first time, it was just a quick 10-minute in-person chat with their top product person, then a technical architect. They sent me home and then ghosted me, no feedback, no replies. Months later, the recruiter messaged again, asking if I was open to talking. It feels like a tactic these days to avoid giving out the job description or title upfront, so you never know why you didn't get it and they can justify anything. Not a good look. The second time, I met with two product managers and a VP. Same thing happened – ghosted again. Unbelievable. Then, I got referred a third time by someone new. I was told they really needed help and wouldn't repeat past mistakes. Honestly, I should have known better. After one video call with that same top product exec, they decided they didn't have an opening right now but might create one and consider me for it. Seems like another way to reject someone. Even after all this, they still can't figure out if I'm a fit? It really makes you question their interviewing process and leadership. I tried to go in with an open mind, but the negative reviews I'd read seem accurate. If this is how they treat candidates, how are employees treated? It's all very questionable.
- Can you tell me about the past products you have worked on?
- How do you manage team dynamics within a product team?
- Could you describe your process for making decisions?
Product Manager
The whole thing was handled really well. They set up the interviews nicely and on time, and kept my timezone in mind. We had four calls first, then three in person. It was good that everyone said the same stuff about the company and products, no weird conflicting info like you sometimes get. They took the time to demo the product, which was helpful. They were also open with info and let me ask plenty of questions. Seriously one of the best interview experiences I've had.
- Can you share your previous experiences in product management?
- What are your thoughts on handling trade-offs in requirements?
- Describe a situation you encountered in sales.
