Pymetrics Software Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process started with a recruiter call, followed by an introductory video interview with a senior engineer, which did not involve any technical coding. Unfortunately, after this, I was ghosted, even after two follow-up attempts. It seems there's a lack of organization in their hiring process, as they mentioned a different process for software engineers, which turned out to be unprofessional.

I made it to the onsite interviews. The whole thing started with a HackerRank challenge that had 5 coding problems, followed by a chatty phone interview, then a remote coding session where we paired up, and finally a 2-hour onsite with some whiteboard work. It felt pretty fair and they seemed to respect my time. They were quick to let me know about next steps, and I was never unsure about what was happening or how to reach them. The onsite was broken up into meetings with different pairs of their staff, which was way easier for me to handle and less nerve-wracking than facing a whole group of people at once. It's kinda weird to me that they build software to interview people but don't use those Pymetrics tests themselves.

There were 5 rounds in total, and the entire process spanned about 2.5 weeks. The first round was a HackerRank challenge with 6 coding questions that I had time to complete. Next, I had an introductory phone call with an engineering lead who discussed my background to see if I was a good fit and provided more information about the company. Following that, I had a phone screen with another engineering lead where we talked about my experience and they asked one coding question. The fourth round was an on-site interview where I met with three people and answered more technical questions. The fifth and final round was also on-site, and it seemed to focus more on cultural fit.
