Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Protiviti.
Consulting Intern
The whole thing from applying to interviews and then getting an offer took about 7 weeks. There were 3 interviews: a phone chat, a behavioral one, and a case study. The phone interview was pretty quick, about 20 mins, and just asked about why I wanted to join Protiviti and my work background. The behavioral and case study interviews happened about a month after I applied. They were both on Zoom the same day, one after the other, and each lasted 30 mins. I thought the behavioral interview was a bit tough because a lot of the questions felt the same, and I worried about sounding repetitive with my answers. Just be ready for questions like challenges faced, times you failed, or disagreements. The case study was reasonable, and they sent some key info the day before to help with prep. Everyone I talked to was really nice and friendly. Overall, a great interview experience.

Associate Consultant
The recruiter reached out on LinkedIn for a pre-screening. We discussed my background and why I was looking to leave my previous job. I then had two interviews. The first was with two people and focused on my experience and if I’d be a good fit. The second interview was more technical, covering the audit lifecycle and testing methods. The recruiter called the next day to check in, discuss the offer details (salary, title), and asked about my other job offers, including specifics. She mentioned my other offers were better and I should consider them. She also brought up some interviewer concerns, which I addressed. She said she’d get back to me after speaking with the interviewers. The next day, I got an email saying I wasn’t being offered the position due to a lack of "mutual skills match." I asked for more specific feedback on what skills I was missing to improve, but the recruiter said she didn’t receive any from the interviewers.
- What’s prompting your departure from your current firm?
Consulting Manager
I was approached by one of their talent acquisition specialists and went through a series of three interviews over the course of three weeks: - The first interview was with HR, where I was asked only administrative questions. This could have been handled more efficiently through a form, as the interviewer had no details regarding the position or level they were considering for me. - The next two interviews were with different Managing Directors, which were more engaging. I gained valuable insights into both the firm and the role. The interviews went well, and we even reached the stage of discussing salary expectations. I was informed that the team would review my salary internally, but I never heard back from them. I find this lack of communication unprofessional—why reach out to someone only to then ignore them?
- Can you explain how your past experience relates to this position?
