Behavioral Case Other

I went through 9 interviews, and the onsite was in the office where I had to work on a case study about a real company problem, which I think is a bad hiring practice. They were slow to respond between interviews, usually taking a week. Their behavior was really unprofessional. It left me with a bad impression of the team and company, which sucks.

I had an initial chat with HR, and right away, it felt like my background didn't perfectly align with what they were looking for, making me doubt I was the right fit. Even so, I proceeded to interview with some executives. During that interview, they dove deep into my strategic thinking, the vendors I've partnered with, and asked for specific insights. Considering I was already flagged as not a great match, it seemed like the interview was more about gathering info than actually evaluating me. It left a bad taste, like my time wasn't valued.

Behavioral Technical

The interview process was pretty standard for a Controller role. It started with a call from a senior recruiter, followed by video interviews with my potential supervisor, a peer in Finance, and a direct report. We did all of these virtually because of COVID. The last step was another video call with my supervisor, which was great because it gave me a chance to ask more in-depth questions about the company and the role that hadn't come up before, really helping me make my decision. The senior recruiter was super helpful, keeping me updated on next steps and always available for questions. The whole thing took about 3.5 weeks from start to finish. It was a really positive experience overall, with open and honest conversations. They were also really quick to set up additional meetings with other team members when I asked, showing they understood how important this hire was.

I applied and then about a month later, I got a phone screening. After that, I had to send in some examples of how I'd respond to customers via email. Then, I had a longer interview with three different people, which lasted around 90 minutes in total. The team seemed really nice and it was easy to chat with them. Sadly, I didn't get the job, likely because my previous work wasn't exactly in customer service for products. I was a bit bummed that the rejection email seemed like a generic template instead of something more personal, but I get that they probably get tons of applications. I was hoping for a more personal email since I made it pretty far. But honestly, the team was great and their benefits package sounded amazing.
