First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Propeller Industries.
Controller
You can apply on the company website. Then the HR recruiter will reach out to you for the first interview with them. After that, there are 3 more interviews plus a financial test. The test covers accounting and finance knowledge. The interviews are with your potential manager, that manager's boss, and the company founder.
- Can you describe the most challenging account reconciliation you've encountered?
- What motivates you to be here for this interview?
Accounting Manager
I went through 4 interviews. The first was a recruiter phone call to chat about the role and see if I was a fit, pretty chill. Then I met with the Director of Accounting, who would be my boss. The third interview was with the VP of Technical Accounting, and I had to do an assessment beforehand, which wasn't too tough, just to see how I'd handle accounting problems. The final round was with the CFO. The whole thing took about 4-5 weeks due to scheduling hiccups and some confusion, but it could probably be done in 2-3 weeks.
- Would you rather ask for forgiveness or permission?
Finance Director
The hiring manager was super transparent and communicated the timing of the process clearly and accurately, starting from when I applied online right down to the offer. It involved a phone screen and three more supervisory interviews over about 4 weeks during the holidays. Most of the interviews were behavioral, focusing on how I'd handle real-life situations. I also had to explain my interest in moving from an in-house finance role to this advisory position, managing client relationships at various levels. I also used the process to understand the workload and workflow of each team member; they were accommodating and transparent. This experience ultimately led me to accept this role over other offers.
- How would you communicate very bad news to a client regarding their prized startup?
Senior Associate
The interview process included an initial 30-minute phone interview, followed by an hour-long Zoom/web interview. Then there was a final panel interview lasting over an hour. I also had to complete an assessment. The people I spoke with were nice and helpful. I thought the second interview, the hour-long one, was a bit excessive considering there was another, longer interview after it. The one-on-one interview felt like it delved too much into personal matters, almost like a therapy session, even though I understand the need to assess character. I wish the assessment was scheduled later in the process so my time wouldn't be wasted if I didn't move forward. Overall, it was a good experience.
- How do you approach achieving a goal?
