Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Procore Technologies.
Senior Recruiter
It was a two-round interview process. The first round was with the Lead Recruiter from India, and the second round was with the Senior Manager Recruiting from the US. They used the Situation Behavious Impact model and asked for examples of past performance and behaviors that align with their values of Ownership, Openness, and Optimism.
- Tell me about a challenging role and stakeholder situation, and what you learned from it.
Recruiter
The process was mainly done in three stages. First stage was an interview screening with someone from the talent acquisition team - this stage was very informative (not too formal which is great). The second is something called the "Core" interview steps where you get to meet 2 or 3 other people from the business and then a final with the hiring manager (sometimes in the form of a task or case study)
- Can you share an instance where you successfully managed a difficult stakeholder?
Technical Recruiter
I was first contacted on LinkedIn by a recruiting leader. We had a 30-minute phone chat, and then planned for an in-person interview. Since I'm 125 miles away and work full-time, it was tricky to get time off for the trip. I eventually found a day and made the drive. Upon arrival, I was told the person who contacted me no longer worked there, which I found strange. The interview itself lasted 5 hours, with a 1-hour lunch break. It included a tour, a 30-minute meeting with the HR head, a 45-minute chat with the lead recruiter, a 30-minute meeting with the CTO, and then 30-minute sessions with four members of the development team (two at a time). The CTO and the last two devs admitted they'd never interviewed a recruiter before and didn't know how, so they just asked general questions out of curiosity about our role. This didn't seem like the best way to assess a recruiter. There's an open-door policy, which seemed to extend to interviews, as people entered and left during sessions, causing confusion and awkwardness. I didn't feel great leaving, but I was hopeful about next steps. They said they'd give me feedback on Monday. When I didn't hear back by Tuesday, I followed up. The lead recruiter replied saying I didn't get the job. When I asked for feedback to improve for the future, she said she couldn't provide any, thanking me for my time. This experience wasn't great for candidate experience, despite the company's growth. They mentioned travel expense reimbursement (for 250 miles and a missed workday), but I still haven't received it three weeks later.
- Could you describe a typical day in your role as a recruiter?
