I had a phone screening that was set up via email. The first scheduled call never happened, so I followed up by email. The person who scheduled it messed up, which happens, so we rescheduled for the next week. During the phone screening, I felt like I was wasting the interviewer's time because she asked questions and then repeated them verbatim after I answered. I'm used to interviewers asking follow-up questions if my answers are too general. It would have been nice if she had asked for clarification instead of using a rough tone with me; I could tell she was frustrated. The questions were pretty open-ended, so I tried to answer them while also including product knowledge I'd gained from my online research. It seemed like she wanted to delve so deeply into my product knowledge that it was almost impossible to answer without having used the product before. It was a phone screening, and I didn't even get a chance to screen them back. I think it was mostly the tone, even though she was the one who missed the first screening and didn't apologize for it. At the end of the call, I even asked why she had called for the screening. I felt like both of our 1.5 hours were wasted. I almost would have preferred an email rejection.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Group Case

It kicked off with a 30-minute phone screen, then a full day of interviews in Santa Barbara. For senior roles, you'll meet the CEO and exec team. My day began with a quick chat with the Hiring Manager, followed by several one-on-one and two-on-one interviews. These heavily focused on culture and leadership, and we also discussed product strategy and prioritization. Lunch was with the executive team, where the role of product in the larger organization was debated. This is a chance for you and the execs to discuss challenges the company faces. Be ready to share your own insights and experience. The evening involved dinner and drinks with the product team. The main emphasis at Procore is culture and how you'll influence it. You'll also need to show deep understanding of product and business strategy, but culture drives their decisions. This was the best interview process I've experienced, and I had a great time. This company is special, with an amazing culture and incredible, talented people.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The hiring process at Procore for several roles I applied for was surprisingly long and confusing. I ended up talking to more than 20 people, which took about 20 hours in total. Even after all that, I didn't get much feedback, and it took a long time to get it, so I wasn't sure how I was doing or what they were even looking for. It felt like they weren't really sure themselves about the qualifications needed for the jobs, making a lot of the interviews feel repetitive and not very interesting. The lack of organization between the different teams was pretty obvious and made the whole thing frustrating. To make it better, Procore should first figure out exactly what they want for each role and the kind of person they need before they start interviewing. It would also be better for everyone if they did fewer interviews and spaced them out better so candidates' time is respected. Getting clear, helpful feedback after interviews would also make the process feel more professional and improve the experience.
