Prime Interview Questions
& Process

Prime offers a really good CDL school where they cover your room and meals. You do have to pay them back about $3,333, but they take it out of your checks slowly. This is way cheaper than other schools that can cost up to $10,000 and don't guarantee a job. The owner is a no-nonsense guy who's built a great company and makes you feel valued, but he also stresses the importance of safety on the road. I left Prime because they lost a bid for a dedicated route, and now I'm working harder for less pay. It's a tough situation and I regret leaving Prime.

I first met them at a school career fair and expressed my interest in logistics. We exchanged emails a few times before I traveled several hours to their facility. I spent half a day there, observing shadowing a couple of people. It seemed like they mostly toggled between two monitors, took calls from drivers and customers, and arranged loads. I was still curious about corporate roles, so they flew me to their HQ. I met with the president and then shadowed someone for the rest of the day. The next day, I shadowed more people and had a couple of interviews. The HR person then discussed the typical base pay, which was 50% of the average for my school program, with mandatory nights and 12-hour shifts for a year. This made me realize it was a waste of my time. I had dinner with some employees that night and flew home the following day.

The first interview was a one-on-one with an HR rep. They went over W-2 and onboarding paperwork and asked general screening questions, and I got to ask questions. Then we did a short tour. Right after, I went to the basement for a urine drug test at their facility. The second interview was in a conference room with the Operations Director, HR Director, President of Operations, and Logistics Director. They asked more questions based on my application and resume. If they liked me, the Operations Director, who would be my boss, offered me the job right after the second interview.

The hiring process was extremely lengthy, taking about 4 months from start to finish. HR was very last minute with communications and didn't coordinate start dates with supervisors or the interviewee. The process involved a phone interview that was mostly behavioral, followed by an in-person interview with a panel of two managers and HR, and then a second interview with senior management. A job offer was extended about three weeks after the final interview, with a drug test and background checks to follow. Employment began approximately 6 weeks after the offer was made.
