Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Price Chopper Supermarkets (NY).
Cashier
It was pretty easy, mostly just asking about my experience and when I could work. The people interviewing me were nice. They really care about your availability, so I'd say always be available, and then you can put in the days you need off once you're hired. But yeah, just basic stuff, nothing to stress about.
- What hours were you looking to work?
- What would you do if you encountered a rude customer?
- What's your approach to dealing with a rude coworker?
Cashier
I applied online. Had a phone interview, then went in for an in-person interview. The person who called me for the phone interview seemed a bit unorganized. The in-person interview was okay, nothing special. I already put my availability on the online application and mentioned it again during the phone interview, but the person interviewing me in person didn't seem to know that and was annoyed I couldn't work nights or overnights. I have over 10 years of retail/cashier experience, but they only offered me 10 cents more than minimum wage, so I turned it down.
- What days and times are you available to work?
Cashier
My application seemed to be lost in the online pile. I had to go in person and speak to the Front End manager to get noticed. This was before they had a dedicated HR person for the store. The interview questions were pretty basic, not too stressful. It took about a month before I could start working. They mostly asked about me as a person and my work schedule.
- What are your working hours?
