Behavioral Technical Coding

Started with a phone call with HR about my background and the company. Then, a technical phone interview with a software engineering manager that covered high-level design and best practices, plus some coding. The final stage was an on-site with 4 rounds (including HR), which was less technical than expected, focusing mostly on behavioral and scenario questions, with just one coding problem. Got rejected a week later due to a perceived lack of specific experience not mentioned initially.

Behavioral Coding

I had a phone chat with HR first, just a basic 'tell me about yourself' kind of thing. After that, I spoke with the Software Development Manager. He didn't seem super engaged from the start, but he wasn't rude. We did a coding session together using shared screen where I practiced some string problems from HackerRank, which wasn't too difficult. They didn't ask any specific questions about databases or object-oriented programming.

The whole process took more than two months. Sometimes the recruiter was hard to reach, probably because it's a startup and they're short-staffed. They also need to make sure they're hiring the right people for senior management. The last person I spoke with was a director who, shockingly, has a felony record as a registered sex offender. This really made me question if I wanted to work there, especially thinking about asking for a reference later. Despite that, the interviews themselves were pretty good, and everyone seemed genuinely enthusiastic about their jobs.
