First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PPG.
Customer Service Specialist
They first did a phone screening then in-person interview if you passed that. The 1:1 interview process was pretty quick. I was interviewed by the city manager and another random store manager. The city manager asked the questions and the other guy just sat and jotted down my answers. They started with getting to know me a bit and what my goals are, etc. Then went into the interview questions; ALL the questions were situational based. So be prepared to give real life examples to match your experiences.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with a superior and how you handled it?
- Describe a time you went above and beyond what was expected in your role.
Customer Service Specialist
A Talent Acquisition Specialist found my resume on a job board and reached out to see if I was interested in a phone interview. I said yes, and they sent an invite for an electronic appointment. The appointment tech was impressive with email and text reminders. The phone interview went well, and the specialist recommended me for a panel interview. A week or two later, a talent acquisition coordinator texted me, saying they'd send an email with a document to complete and return before the interview. This document, a 'pre-employment export control questionnaire,' seemed xenophobic as it mentioned government sanctions against certain countries and individuals, making them ineligible for employment. While I get PPG needs to comply, it seemed unnecessary for a customer service role. The questionnaire also required a copy of my birth certificate to prove U.S. citizenship, which I found odd, especially since no other employer I've worked for, even those dealing with export-related items, asked for this. I got my birth certificate from the courthouse for $20. The interview was supposed to be with 4 people, but only 2 showed up without any prior notice or explanation. This made the in-person interview confusing and poorly executed, especially when I was instructed to ask for someone who wasn't even there. After the interview, I never received any follow-up about whether I was moving to the next step or not. No 'thank you' or explanation, just left hanging. I still feel PPG is xenophobic, even after looking it up. This whole process felt like a waste of my time and money.
- What was your reason for leaving your last job?
Customer Service Representative
First, there was a 30-minute screening call with a recruiter to discuss my background and the role/company. They did have to reschedule last minute and were slow to set up the next step, taking over a week with no contact. Then, I had a virtual interview with the hiring manager, which went well and they seemed impressed. HR was again slow to schedule the next step, taking over a week. Next, I had an in-office interview with the director and hiring manager. The director was a bit late and distracted due to a meeting but didn't raise objections. The hiring manager discussed onboarding and made it seem like the final interview was just a formality. They said to expect follow-up soon. After the decision date passed, I followed up and was told the process was taking longer but a decision would be made soon. After two more weeks with no contact, I followed up again with no response. It's now been over four months with no contact.
