I found the job on the company website and sent in a long application. When I checked in with the store, they said they don't use that application pipeline. Not a good way to do things! I did have a phone interview, but they ultimately said they'd rather hire someone already in the industry. I have over 10 years of specialty retail management experience, and for the last 4 years, I've been teaching merchandising at the university level, getting students ready for careers in the field.

The interview process started with a phone interview for qualification purposes. Following that, there was a one-hour in-person interview. After the discussion, there was a follow-up with the Divisional Merchandiser. The interview was very professional and informative. They followed up on time and as expected. The only downside was having to wait in the store for the interview appointment, and the interviewer was about 15 minutes late, which is understandable for an in-store retailer interview if they are with customers.
