Saw an ad on Craigslist NYC and went to an orientation. They said bring my bike, but didn't ask for it. It was a group meeting with about 20 others. A former courier talked about the company. We filled out a card to say if we wanted to pursue the gig. If you said yes, they did a background check, and if you passed, you came back for onboarding. I got called back the next day. Paid a $100 deposit for an iPhone for the app, which is how the business runs. They said I could get the deposit back when I upgrade my phone and download the app. The ad said $25/hr, but they explained it's variable based on jobs and volume. Could be more, could be less. I signed up, got the phone, but can't start taking jobs until next week, so I'm unsure about the final pay.

The hiring process seems stodgy, had to reschedule several times before being an employee. Maybe its a mid level management issue? otherwise, the interview process reiterates everything you can read on the website

I know it's been almost 4 years since I interviewed with Postmates, but I thought the whole process was very professional. I work full-time in IT, dealing with risk management and process auditing, so I'll mention that to give you an idea of the kind of questions I might have been asked for my role. The interview and orientation with Postmates went super smoothly. The manager back then, who isn't the manager now, was really enthusiastic about meeting candidates, seeing if they were interested, and determining if they could actually do the job. It's not exactly rocket science, but it does require a certain drive, and if you've got it, they want you on board. There weren't any specific questions, but they do require a background check and other things like being able to speak English and owning your own smartphone. You might think that's obvious, but these are really important requirements. Delivering someone's order is pretty simple, but the questions they asked and the information they provided were really focused on making sure you understood that working for Postmates is all about the customer, not about you. I actually enjoyed the entire experience.
