Product Manager
- Share an experience where there was a conflict in the team/company and how you handled it.
Product Manager
So I applied and was first emailed by the VP of product. The first 'round' involved recording myself answer two questions. It was about 10 minutes of video, but I prepped for hours and did lots of takes. I sent them in and then followed up like 6 times over a month via email. No response at all after the first contact. They ghosted me. It really made me think less of Instapage. I was surprised that VPs would be doing phone screens. Their inability to even reply to candidates they reach out to makes it seem like this process isn't planned well, or maybe it's just disorganized. I felt dismayed by the whole thing.
- Considering our Engineering and Design teams are 100% remote, please share an experience managing a remote team, including a positive aspect of collaboration and a challenge.
- Describe the most difficult product you've managed in terms of prioritization and explain your reasoning.
Product Manager
The interview process was a really bad experience, especially with the new CTO. He asked really vague questions about performance reviews and teamwork, things that didn't even relate to product. Then at the end, he said he didn't 'feel' like I was a product person, which isn't surprising since he steered the conversation away from product. I told him and later emailed recruitment that I could share tons of examples of my product achievements and methodologies, but I got a rejection email right after the call. My interviews with the product director and other team members were much better, really focused on product achievements, exercises, and questions about product methodologies, and I got positive feedback from them. The recruitment team was great and moved me through the process quickly. I was really confused why I didn't get to talk about my product background with the new CTO, but I hope they fix this process for future candidates.
- Can you share feedback you received from your manager and how you applied it to improve?
- Describe the best and worst teams you've been a part of and your contributions to them.
