Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Posse Foundation.
Program Director
For the first part, we had a group interview. We were put into small groups and had to answer some questions the facilitator gave us. It was timed, and we had to answer within our groups. People were walking around and listening to us, judging us that way.
- Can you tell us about your college experience?
Program Director
The interview process felt a bit rushed because Posse needed to hire quickly due to high staff turnover. The previous director mentioned that four people had left just before my interviews. I got there on time and chatted with about 15 other candidates and 5 Posse staff members (trainer, manager, co-director, etc.). We first watched a video about Posse's work, featuring prominent figures. Then, we were split into groups and each had about a minute to answer around 10 questions, similar to the DAP process Posse uses for selecting scholars. Candidates had between 3 and 15 years of experience. After that, I had a one-on-one session where I did a writing test and answered questions about my resume. The final part involved leading a workshop discussion on a topic I'm passionate about. I got an offer within a week but turned it down due to concerns about the organization. Informational interviews revealed that Posse employees work very hard, especially during recruitment periods, with 60-70 hour weeks, which the staff also indicated. I also heard from former employees that morale and pay are low there.
- What was your college experience like?
- How does your boss see you?
- Tell me about your experience.
Program Director
The interview process was similar to what others have shared. It was a bit disappointing that there was no initial screening, and then candidates were expected to attend an interview with less than 48 hours' notice, with no alternative dates offered. This definitely reflects a startup culture where they seek passionate individuals willing to go the extra mile for minimal pay.
- Can you tell me about the town where you grew up?
- What are your colleagues' impressions of you?
- What would your manager say about you?
