Case Manager
It was a well-structured and informational interview. The interviewer gave good info about the company and what the day-to-day work is like. Then we moved on to questions about the position and what happens next. The whole thing took about 38 minutes and was done over the phone.
- Can you share how you keep things balanced and organized in both your personal and professional life?
Case Manager
The hiring process took a long time. I had a 2-hour interview where 3 different people asked me repetitive questions about my work experience. Even though I have about 4 years of insurance experience and was told the interview went well and they were really impressed with my work history, I wasn't offered the job. The recruiter also mentioned they thought I'd be a good fit for the team. When I tried to get feedback from the recruiter on why I wasn't selected, they ghosted me. It's really unfortunate because I was very excited to join this company.
- Can you start by telling me about yourself?
- What is it that motivates you?
Manager
I had a really strange phone screen. I applied for one role but got an email about a different one I hadn't applied for. Since I was open to discussing, I agreed to the phone screen for the job I didn't apply for. The odd thing was, the job description clearly stated it required people manager experience, which I didn't have, and I hadn't misrepresented this on my resume or cover letter. After a few questions, it became obvious I couldn't honestly answer the people management question. I told them I didn't have direct managerial experience, and if they'd looked at my resume, they'd know this. I got a cold vibe from HR and suspected something was off. It was a good learning experience though. I should have asked more upfront about that requirement when they emailed me. The HR person gave me the impression they were understaffed and possibly had personality conflicts between new and existing staff, based on one of her questions. That was a red flag. I didn't move forward, which was a first for me after a phone screen. It was a good learning experience. Just watch out for grumpy HR folks and people who don't do their homework on resumes. If an applicant says they don't have a required skill, don't waste their time. And if the HR person isn't friendly, let them do most of the talking. Noted!
- How did you find out about this opportunity?
- What's prompting your job search?
- Can you share your experience in people management?
