First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Planned Parenthood.
Human Resources Generalist
It was a great interview process. Questions are related to job. The interviewer made me feel at ease. We had a rapport which made me answer all the questions smoothly.
- Can you describe your approach to managing employee relations?
Human Resources Assistant
I applied online after getting an automated email about a job opening that fit my profile. About two weeks later, HR called to set up an interview for the next week. I asked if I needed to bring anything, and they said no. When I got there, they had me fill out a long application packet, which had the same info as the online one, plus forms for a background check and references. This took another hour after my 45-minute interview. It felt weird to have to agree to a background check before getting an offer. Three people from HR, including the VP, interviewed me. Afterward, they told me their timeline for the remaining interviews (they saw three people total), asked if I was still interested, how soon I could start, and said I'd hear back within a week. It's been over a week with no word, so I assume they hired someone else. They mentioned needing to fill the role fast because the last person was laid off, so it would've been good to get an update. The interviewers were nice, but the long paperwork and no follow-up made it a bad experience. I get that nonprofits are busy, but a quick email update is part of the HR job.
- Could you explain your reasons for leaving your previous job?
HR Generalist
Applied, and a week later was scheduled for an interview. Did a phone interview and heard back a week later that they chose another candidate to interview. Apparently it was because my salary requirements were too high. They wanted YEARS of experience but are paying LESS than $89K for the job. Planned Parenthood will continue to struggle in obtaining good employees if they don't want to pay them what they are worth. NYC is VERY expensive to live in and this is NOT the 1800's. I'm VERY disappointed with Planned Parenthood and how low they pay.
