The interview rounds were super chill and I got good feedback. It was a great experience interviewing at Planet, the recruiting team was really nice. This Analytics Modeling internship had three interview rounds: first an HR round, then two technical rounds. The first technical round was about Remote Sensing, Machine/Deep Learning, and my projects. The second technical round focused on algorithmic problem solving, Python coding skills, and was more CS-oriented.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Standard questions about my motivation to join Planet were asked by the HR person.
  • In the 1st technical round on Remote Sensing and Machine Learning, there was an in-depth discussion about my current projects and addressing key issues in deep networks for Earth Observation challenges (e.g., handling false positives, etc.).
  • The second technical round was more on algorithmic problem solving including coding ability in Python and was more aligned towards Computer Science.

Technical Coding

It was 3 rounds of phone/tech interviews that took place over a long time. The process felt a bit scattered and could have been more efficient, as some interviews seemed repetitive.

I applied online but didn't hear back for a while. I then met some Planet Labs employees at a conference, and after that, things moved very fast. I was contacted by the People Team shortly after the conference and the process began. First was an initial phone screening that was mainly about getting to know me. Two weeks later, I had a telephonic technical interview. I heard back about their decision exactly two weeks after that. The technical interview was with the Mosaic Team and mostly focused on my resume. After being notified of their decision, I asked for feedback on my first-ever technical interview, and the interviewer provided very helpful input. It was a great experience, and I plan to apply again for future roles.
