First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Planet.
Product Engineer
The interview process was quite thorough, involving many people I'd likely work with, plus some technical tests. It's crucial to be enthusiastic about what the company does and to be a good fit for the work culture! My advice: Research the company and Planet Labs thoroughly. Use LinkedIn to find people you might collaborate with. Be confident, or at least act like it. Understand their progress and potential future directions. Expect a technical challenge and plan your time wisely. Most importantly, have a clear reason for your career choice and connect it to Planet Labs' mission.
- What drew you to Planet Labs?
- What gets you up and going each day?
- Be ready for technical questions specific to the role you're applying for.
Engineer
The hiring process felt disorganized. The recruiter was chatty about personal stuff and hard to keep focused on scheduling. I had a joint interview with two Engineering Managers, and one even left mid-interview to make coffee. After the panel, I had to follow up myself to get any info about the role. I'm not sure if I got it, but the disorganization is a major red flag for me.
- Standard engineering questions.
Engineer
This interview process for Planet Labs' federal side was a mess. I went through three interviews, and each time, different people asked me the same questions. Only one of the interviewers was going to be my direct teammate. None of the questions I asked got answered. The recruiter has been stalling me for over six months.
- Could you explain your interest in Planet?
