Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Planet.
Customer Success Manager
It started with a screening call from the talent acquisition manager. Then, I had several interviews with the hiring manager and various team members. They asked a mix of competency-based, behavioral, and culture fit questions. The whole process was clear and communication was great. After about 3-4 weeks of interviews, the final step was a presentation on a topic directly related to the role, in front of the team and their director.
- Can you explain why you're a suitable candidate for this specific position?
Customer Success Manager
I got an interview invite about 2 weeks after applying. The recruiter was kinda distant and cold even though I was really excited about the company and this opportunity. Things took a turn when she asked about my salary expectations, which I couldn't answer since I still had so many questions about the role (like portfolio, targets, market, processes). When I asked about the salary range and package, she got snarky and didn't give me an answer. I asked if we could discuss salary later, after I spoke with the hiring manager and had a better grasp of the expectations. Two weeks later, I got a generic rejection email. It's always a bummer when interviews fall apart because recruiters aren't upfront about compensation.
- What are your thoughts on salary expectations?
- Could you share the salary range and overall compensation package?
- Would it be possible to discuss salary at a later stage, once I've had a chance to speak with the hiring manager and gain a clearer understanding of the role's expectations?
Customer Success Manager
They rescheduled the interview with the Hiring Manager, saying she didn't have time, and then they replied saying that the role got pushed back and that they would be reaching out. Similar to other companies, if they hear you're from South America, they'll immediately lower the salary base expectations for the role. They told me it would be 10K a year. That means the culture they say respects every background, really doesn't. It's disappointing to see they value you so little given that people with the same role but based in USA or Europe make 117K a year.
- What salary are you expecting?
