First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pixar Animation Studios.
3D Animator
After submitting my online application, I got an email about an interview. The team was really friendly and wanted to hear about my past work and the details of my projects. I went into depth about how I worked on them. I made sure to mention that I'm eager to learn new skills.
- Can you tell me how much time you spent completing this project?
Lighting Artist
They had a full day interview with four stages. It started with a quick chat with HR, then I went into a conference room with 4-6 future coworkers. They asked general questions about my background and work history, then dove into specifics from my resume. They also reviewed my demo reel, pausing to discuss particular shots. This group rotated out, and a new group came in for a similar session. This happened about four times, with a lunch break with some coworkers in between, going until about 3pm. Finally, HR met with me to go over the details of working there before I left around 4pm.
- What do you enjoy most about your work?
3D Artist
So I got to interview with Pixar, which was really cool. The vibe there is super creative and welcoming. The people interviewing me were really into their work, which made it fun. They asked questions to see if I had the skills and could think creatively. They looked at my portfolio and asked stuff that let me show what I'm good at. They made me feel comfy and you can tell they care about teamwork and creativity, not just the tech skills. It was a great experience, win or lose, and I learned a lot. I'm excited about the possibility of working there.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to balance creative ideas with technical limits and how you managed it.
