Behavioral Presentation

I had a 3-interview process, plus a drug test. The first meeting was with HR and lasted 2 hours, followed by lunch in the cafeteria. In the afternoon, I had two separate 30-minute interviews with the director and senior director. They seemed to like that I was a smoker and asked about my school background and being European, highlighting that a multicultural environment is a big plus for them. They also tested my French and Spanish skills and inquired about my strongest marketing examples. Additionally, I was asked some situational questions like 'what would you do?' and 'where do you see yourself?'

There were three interview rounds for this Sales position. The first round was a one-on-one interview, focusing almost entirely on behavioral questions. If you passed the first round, you were invited to a group dinner the next evening. At the dinner, there were 3-4 Philip Morris employees and about 5-6 other job applicants. The goal was to see how each applicant presented themselves in a social setting, with the interviewers acting informally to encourage applicants to relax. The following day was the second interview round. It was similar to the first, but you faced a panel of employees who asked more challenging questions to assess your reaction under pressure. It's important to be ready to share detailed, relevant anecdotes from your work or extracurricular experiences to back up your answers.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you describe a problem you faced in a past job or extracurricular activity and how you managed it?
  • Tell me about a time you collaborated with a team to overcome a challenge that would have been impossible to solve alone.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I first showed my interest in Philip Morris at a college Career Day by signing up and giving them my resume. If they like your resume, they'll call you for an interview. Signing in at Career Day is super important to show leadership and willingness to talk to people. The interview process has 3 steps. Interview 1: Two people evaluate you and ask what you know about the company. Research the company website (philipmorrisusa.com) and know their values and mission, then connect them to your answers to impress them. Interview 2: 2-3 head managers interview you. They ask behavioral questions like 'What would you do in this situation?' to understand your personality and how you handle things. At the end, they give you a paper with 4 questions, pick one randomly, and ask what you'd do in that scenario. There's no right or wrong answer; just be honest and confident. They want someone decisive with leadership skills, not wishy-washy. Interview 3: This is like a trial run. You go into the field for a day with a Territory Sales Manager and their boss to experience the job. Help out the managers in stores, be observant, ask lots of questions, and show them you're learning and can handle the internship. This is the final step before they decide on an offer. Two final tips: 1) Be confident and highlight your out-of-the-box thinking and leadership skills, explaining how they add value. 2) Make sure you're okay with selling cigarettes; they'll ask this in almost every interview. If you have a problem with tobacco products, this job isn't for you. They'll also ask if you smoke. You can say no, and it won't hurt your chances. Most people I know there don't smoke. Philip Morris USA employees are generally easy to get along with if you're a people person, which will help you fit in. Good luck!

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Do you smoke cigarettes? If not, what is your opinion on tobacco product usage?
  • Your company is in financial trouble, and your boss has told you to generate revenue by any means necessary. You have a long-standing client who trusts you implicitly and wants to purchase a machine that will be very profitable for your company. However, you are aware that this machine will be obsolete in a few months, and a superior version will be released by your company in six months. Your boss's directive is clear on revenue generation, but you also want to maintain your client's trust. How do you proceed?

So, there were three rounds where they asked technical machining questions. Before that, I had to complete a 4-hour Machinist Test. Then, they put a group of us together to brainstorm production and machine problems. Three interviewers watched us and judged how we did.
