It was a panel with HR and management people. They talked about how they climbed the ladder and how long they've been with the company. I got the vibes they seemed very unhappy with their current position. I didn’t feel any enthusiasm. It was very bland and I felt like I was talking to a wall. I’m afraid that they don’t know what they really want or what they’re looking for, so make sure you ask questions like what exactly are they looking for in this new employee and ask for very specific things because from the questions they ask, I don’t think they know what they want, so be careful.

I was contacted by a recruiter and had to do a bunch of paperwork online, like a background check, even before getting the job, which was weird and time consuming. Then I interviewed with the VP. A week later, I had a second interview with the field manager at a hospital where they had a setup. The manager asked me to practice selling their disability plan to people there, which felt like training. The company targets city employees, mostly minorities, and doesn't seem very diverse itself, which makes me hesitant. The manager and I got along well, and she liked my resume. But surprisingly, I got an email within 48 hours saying my background wasn't a fit, which was insulting given my experience and license as an insurance sales professional. It seems they hire based on other factors than insurance experience, as I met new reps with mortgage backgrounds.

I found this job on craigslist. First, I had a phone chat with the recruiter. They told me the salary is $35,000 plus bonuses and asked some basic questions. Then, I interviewed face-to-face with the manager. They asked typical interview questions like why I want to work there, why insurance, and about handling rejections and tough customers. I also took a quick test to see if I could pass the insurance licensing exam. I was supposed to do a field day that day to get customers to talk to a sales rep, but it got moved to the next day because of an issue with the sales rep. On the field day, the manager counted how many people I got to talk to a rep, and I was told to come back the next day to meet the regional VP. The last interview was mostly situational questions. The VP told me what concerns they had about hiring me and I had to give examples from my past work to address them. I got an offer two days later, the process was fast.
