Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PetSmart.
Sales Associate
I applied for a retail sales associate job at Petsmart but when I showed up, the position was actually for Petshotel and the interviewer said it would be mostly dealing with dogs. Even though I applied for a different role, I would have taken the Petshotel job anyway. The interview was on January 29 and she mentioned she had a few more candidates to interview and would get back to me. It's now February 20 and I haven't heard anything. About a week and a half after the interview, I called the store for an update. An employee took down my info and said the manager would be back on Thursday. Petsmart tends to ghost candidates they don't think are a good fit. I might be a bit slow due to a TBI, but I believe I'm a better communicator than the hiring manager. I used to shop at Petsmart but I won't support this location anymore because of their unprofessionalism. I was also rejected by Pet Food Express, but at least they sent an email, which shows professionalism. I'd rather shop at a place that notifies you of rejection than one that ghosts you.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Would you mind getting dirty?
- Are you okay with being around dogs of various sizes?
Retail Sales Associate
I had two interviews. The first was a general get-to-know-you chat. The second involved situational questions about customer service scenarios and questions about my past customer service experience.
- Tell me about your customer service experience and how you work best.
- How would you handle specific customer service situations?
Sales Associate
This was my first job interview, and it was a really good learning experience. I got there an hour early to make sure I was on time and took a moment to get myself together before the meeting. I was a little nervous because I don't have much experience, but the interview went well and was pretty quick. The main issue was that the job was full-time, and I was looking for part-time work, so they decided not to hire me because of that.
- What is your definition of customer service?
