First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pets at Home.
Shop Assistant
I had a phone call with the manager and then went into the store. They showed me the till system and I practiced serving customers for about 30 minutes. Then they showed me how they restock the shelves and the system they use. All the staff were really nice and made me feel welcome. Finally, I had a chat with Gavin, the manager.
- What is your availability?
- Do you have pets?
- Can you tell me about your customer service skills?
Store Assistant
The interview process was very professional and the trial shift was really fun. When I got to the store, everyone was welcoming, and the store looked neat and tidy. The store manager, Rick, had me do a trial shift where I got to try out different jobs in the store, like working the checkout and cleaning a fish tank. I liked the atmosphere and how friendly the staff were. It made me feel more confident and relaxed for the interview. Overall, it was a great experience.
- How would you work with others to provide customer service?
Store Assistant
First, I had a phone call with the store manager. Then, they invited me to do a work trial and then another interview with the store manager. The questions in the second interview were pretty much the same as the first, which felt a bit awkward repeating myself. The work trial involved watching someone use the till and stocking shelves, it was super easy and not stressful at all. It was actually helpful seeing what the job entailed, although it made me realize it wasn't the right fit for me when I saw how the animals were kept in small cages. I don't think I could have handled that part. They said I'd hear back by Tuesday, but I never did, which I thought was a bit unprofessional. Luckily, I ended up getting another job that was a better match for me.
- How do you feel about working towards targets?
- What’s your definition of good customer service?
- Can you describe a time you handled a difficult customer and how you resolved it?
