General Manager
It was a pretty long interview process, but the recruiters were really good. The questions were pretty average for the industry, and so were the benefits and pay. I didn't see a great range in my research. You'd probably do well here if you have a strong sales personality to sell their new VCP package.
- Can you tell me about a time you used the STAR method to answer a question?
- Describe a situation where you had to sell something new or complex.
- How would you apply the STAR method to a sales challenge?
General Manager
The interview process was really long. The District Manager kept putting off scheduling the interview, saying he was too busy. The recruiter who contacted me was great and thought I was a good fit. When I finally met the district manager (he was late), he seemed uninterested when I asked about the company and benefits, just saying it's typical retail, which was a red flag. He said I'd hear back in a week, but it took over 3 weeks and multiple emails to get a rejection. This was all just to set up a meeting with the VP for the final interview. It's no wonder they have so many open positions in this district; they don't seem to be in a rush to hire people to staff their stores. It was very unprofessional and disorganized. They'll keep struggling until they fix this. I think I was rejected because I asked for more pay than they were willing to offer, based on my past retail management experience.
- Can you share an instance where you had to have a tough talk with an employee?
General Manager
I was called into a restaurant for the interview. It was a group interview with 2 store managers and a district manager. The behavior from this group should've been the first sign of a problem, felt like I was at a frat house. Obvious that the good old boy system was in place from the start. After a good 2 hours of discussion, I left. Most of the discussion was on the problems with the staff in place at the location I would be in, and past manager issues, as well as a member of the staff they were hot to terminate. I got the call to let me know I was being hired.
- Accountability-what do you do to hold your staff accountable?
