First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pet Valu.
Store Manager
The whole thing took over a month and I'm still waiting. First I had a phone interview, then nothing. I always had to call them to get any action. Then I had an interview with a regional sales manager, then nothing again. Then I had to call again for an interview with a district manager. Their excuse was that they were busy and forgot to call me. Really bad communication.
- They mostly tried to get a general sense of my personality and experience rather than asking specific questions.
Store Manager
I was already working part-time and wanted to move up to manager, so I sent my resume to my District Manager (DM). I was already handling store operations as a part-time employee. My coworkers also suggested I'd be a good manager, as did the previous store manager. Even though there were other candidates, after I sent my resume and expressed my interest, my DM finally set up an interview for me. It came down to me and another candidate I'd worked with before at another Hallmark. He ultimately chose me because I was able to describe her management style.
- Can you discuss your management experience?
- What's your background in managing a store?
- How do you handle management responsibilities?
Store Manager
Applied online, then had an interview at a local restaurant. Afterward, I was told about next steps with the regional manager at a store very far away. The regional manager was 30 minutes late to the interview to see if I would wait.
