Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pet Valu.
Sales Associate
The interview happened in the back of the shop. It was mostly standard interview questions. The whole thing felt professional and pretty easy. They needed someone who could handle heavy lifting and be standing for most of their shift.
- Do you have any experience with animals?
- What's your experience with lifting heavy things?
- How are you with being on your feet for long periods?
Sales Associate
Applied online after seeing a job board posting. About a week later, got a call for an interview. It was a one-on-one in the back room. They asked pretty generic questions like why I want to work there, what I liked and disliked about my last job, what's most important in sales, and a time I had to work with someone I didn't like. Pretty much, just make sure all your answers are focused on customer service. Even though I had no sales or cash experience, if you focus on customer service, you'll be fine. Use keywords like personalization, up-selling, goal oriented, etc. Be happy, don't be a robot!
- What is your motivation for wanting to work here?
- Can you describe a stressful situation and how you handled it?
Sales Associate
The interview went well, with many questions. They asked detailed questions about my previous employment to get specific facts. There was one question that was a bit unclear. The manager and assistant manager seemed really nice. We even shared some jokes and laughed, which made it seem like a positive workplace. The interview started exactly on time, and we immediately began with the questions.
- What was your experience like at your previous job?
