First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pet Supermarket.
Sales Associate
I applied online and completed a personality test, which apparently accounts for 80% of the hiring decision. Shortly after, I was invited for an interview with the store manager. Following that, I had to take a drug test. Everyone was really nice and friendly. Basically, if you're smiling, friendly, and connect with the interviewers, you've pretty much got the job. They're really looking for someone who's a people person and just generally pleasant!
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- What are your long-term career aspirations over the next five years?
- How do you think you could contribute to our store's success?
Sales Associate
Hiring processes can be quite different depending on the store manager. For me, I'd typically bring someone in for an interview, ask them some basic questions, and assess their sales skills and strengths. If they seemed like a good fit, I'd then have them complete a background and drug test form. The whole thing usually wraps up in about two weeks, though it can take longer depending on how many addresses are on your background form.
- Describe a situation where you dealt with a challenging customer.
- Do you feel comfortable with suggestive selling techniques?
- I'd like you to try selling me this dog toy.
Sales Associate
The hiring process was pretty chill. They pretty much ask you personal life questions, like for example: "Do you go to school? What do you do on your spare time? etc." Then they ask you what you will bring to the company if you work there. It's all up to you on what you say. Also, make sure that you look professional. Yes, it's a retail store, but you want to look like you REALLY want to be there!
- What value will you add to the company if I hire you today?
- What do you do in your spare time?
- Do you go to school?
