Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Persado.
Software Engineer
I had my interview with Persado back in September. The whole process had three stages, and a different engineer led each one. It wasn't heavy on algorithm or data structure questions. Instead, they asked quick questions to see if I was familiar with the programming language they use, rather than testing my problem-solving skills. I'd say the questions weren't too hard overall, though you're up against other candidates, so it's not a direct measure of how easy it is to get an offer. All the interviewers were really nice and easy to talk to, making it one of the better interview experiences I've had.
- What approach would you take to avoid two users registering with the identical email address at the very same moment?
- If you had a SQL database with tables for users and tasks, where a user can have multiple tasks, what query would you construct to retrieve all users who do not have any tasks associated with them?
Software Engineer
We started with a Skype interview where we chatted and you were asked one conceptual technical question. Then, there was a 2-hour on-site interview. This involved talking to 3 different people back-to-back. First, the Director of Engineering asked some generic coding problems. Next, a Senior Ruby engineer focused on Rails-specific topics and gave a couple of Ruby coding problems. Finally, a Senior JS engineer covered JS and front-end topics, including one Git question.
- Could you explain how you implement the revealing module pattern in JavaScript?
Software Engineer
It was a long process with many steps which I followed to the letter and reached to the final step. Then I was informed that they would now proceed with my candidacy because I was lacking the skills they knew that were missing from day one. This has left me with the feeling that it was a waste of time for me.
- Tell us about a really difficult situation you were in.
