Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Perkins & Will.
Project Architect
Started with introductions and a quick chat about my background, then we talked about goals, the kind of work environment I like, etc. The in-person interview wrapped up without a tour of the studio, but we had a really good conversation and I felt a good connection with the people interviewing me. They got a good feel for my abilities without needing a deep dive into my portfolio.
- What is your biggest weakness?
Architect
It was a pretty standard interview process with normal questions. The staff was very friendly. I only interviewed one time and then got the offer. The whole process probably took about two weeks.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Walk me through your resume and highlight relevant experience.
- Could you discuss each project listed in your portfolio?
Architect
My previous interviews for similar roles took about an hour or more and were pleasant and relaxed. Everyone I spoke with was gracious and listened well. However, my experience at Perkins and Will (Seattle office) was terrible. They reviewed my portfolio and talked with me in under 30 minutes. The interviewers, two senior associates, had an egocentric attitude. One was unpleasant, but the other was decent. They acted like they were questioning why I was there and why they were wasting their time. After only five minutes, I questioned why I had even considered working for them. This is a message for P+W: if you invite someone for an interview, please take the time to carefully review their resume and portfolio beforehand. It seemed like you hadn't even familiarized yourselves with me. My only regret is not receiving an offer so I could reject it. If this is how you treat candidates, I can't imagine how you treat employees.
- What year did you graduate?
