You start by submitting an application on the Peraton careers site or through a recruiter. Then, recruiters will look at your resume to see if you have the right technical skills, experience, and any required security clearance. After that, the recruiter will give you a call to talk about the job, the project, and the workplace. They will also check if you meet the basic requirements, if you're still interested, confirm your clearance status, and discuss your salary expectations.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview process involved a mix of behavioral and technical questions, making up about half of the time each. For the technical part, I was shown Java and Python functions and asked to debug and optimize them. I also had to suggest the appropriate data structures for given problems in both languages.

Behavioral Coding

The interview started with a manager chat where we talked about my previous projects, many of which matched their current work, making them excited and me hopeful. Then came the tech interview, which was just a timed Hackerrank test. They recorded everything I typed. The task was some coding puzzle that didn't make sense for a research role. I don't remember the specifics because the rules were so weird. It involved a vector of numeric sub-vectors, finding the max for every third entry, and moving vectors around, which was completely nonsensical. I asked for clarification on the problem, the skills being assessed, and the rules' meaning, but got no help, suspecting the interviewer didn't understand it either. So, I just started structuring the data until time ran out. Despite having years of relevant experience, I was disqualified because of this confusing Hackerrank puzzle that no one could explain. It seems this company doesn't value understanding tasks before coding, which is odd for a research position.
