First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pepperdine University.
Student Accounts Coordinator
They were really respectful and professional. They were super clear about what the job entails, both from the online listing and their own experience. They told me about the 90-day probation, benefits, and chances to grow. They also asked me about my past experiences and what I knew that related to the job.
- Can you share a time when a situation with a student became frustrating, and how you handled it?
Instructional Designer
Had a great, friendly chat with the team who seemed really positive and ready for anything. This job feels like a perfect fit with awesome people. The only big hurdle for me was the cost of moving to the area.
- Can you tell me about your approach to various training modalities?
- Walk me through your experience with the ADDIE process.
- How do you navigate situations where you receive conflicting feedback from subject matter experts?
Associate Director of Development
This was by far the most unprofessional and unorthodox interview process I have experienced among the universities I have interviewed with. This was a 5 month interview process. The first one was through Zoom in mid Feb. I reach out in April and get a weird, informal, "off the record" interview with another member of the development team. I hear nothing and send a thank you email 2 weeks later only to immediately get a response asking to connect again. This occasion gets delayed twice with almost no communication, leading me to believe this was a forgotten matter. I finally get a call from the 'hiring manager'. This call goes well. I'm told next steps will be a woman reaching out to me to interview with and if things go well, an in person interview with higher ups. This woman was supposed to contact me within a week. A whole month passes. I follow up. I am now emailed that I am no longer in the running and that they gave the position to an internal candidate. Not only was I lied to and denied at least the opportunity to engage in the next part of the process like I was told, it seemed like there was no intention to ever inform me of the final decision as it came. If anything, I am glad this opportunity didn't work out. I have heard from many different places that this place has a lot of problems and harbors unprofessionalism and didn't believe it as I had no firsthand experience to support that sentiment. It turns out that this organization was hugely disappointing and seems keen to preserving dedicated mismanagement.
- Can you tell me about your experience working with Boards that are unyielding?
- Share your experience corresponding with Boards that don't give.
Content Manager
I had to fill out a long questionnaire when I applied, which I actually liked. I guess doing a good job on that got me a phone interview. The phone interview itself was great, but they didn't end up offering me the job. The hiring manager was nice enough to call me and explain it was a tough choice. She mentioned she initially thought I might be overqualified, but decided to interview me anyway. I suspect that played a part in the final decision. It seemed like a good place to work, though.
- We discussed the position and how my skills fit.
- We talked about the school's future plans for promotion and administration.
- We discussed how I could contribute to those plans.
