Pendo Software Engineer Interview Questions

Shortly after applying, I got a link to a HackerRank interview. I suspect these might be sent to everyone who applied, given how quick the turnaround was. It involved two coding challenges and three multiple-choice questions on algorithms. They also gave a date for when to expect a response, so it was clear when the rejection would come.

I had an interview with Pendo, and it was pretty bad. I've interviewed at big tech companies with hard interviews, but Pendo's felt like a waste of time and wasn't impressive. The first step was a recruiter phone screen where they asked standard questions like 'Why Pendo?' and 'Tell me about scaling a product.' They didn't seem very technical. Then there was a 2.5-hour online assessment. It had typical LeetCode problems (easy/medium), which I passed easily. The frustrating part was a raw HTML/CSS task to make a grid layout. It felt like a basic front-end check and a waste of time for an OA, especially for a mid/senior role. I spent 1.5 hours on the coding part, passing all tests, but I didn't want to spend another hour on HTML, so I submitted placeholder code. I told the recruiter I could show my front-end skills live, but a few days later, they called me during work hours to say they were moving on with other candidates. The fact they called instead of emailing about rejection shows they don't value candidate time. To top it off, the offered salary range, even the top end, was lower than my current pay, and this was supposed to be a more senior role. It's hard to respect a company that wants a senior hire but won't match current salary. The whole process was poorly designed and didn't fit the role. Pendo's interview process isn't helping them attract good talent. The HTML task was too simple for an OA for a mid/senior role, and communication was awful. I've had better interview experiences elsewhere and wouldn't recommend Pendo's process unless you're desperate.

It was a multi-part process involving both behavioral and technical interviews. There were 5 stages in total, with technical aspects integrated throughout, from beginning to end. The questions, both behavioral and technical, weren't overly difficult, but it was a tiring process overall. Still, it was a great experience and a great company!
