First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pella Windows and Doors by Gunton Corporation.
Brand Ambassador
It was a short and awkward interview. The recruiter seemed very young and struggled to maintain a conversation. It felt like a waste of time because I was told I'd hear back in a week, but I received a text back three weeks later, even after calling her twice.
- What was your knowledge of Pella windows?
Sales Representative
They're not really looking to fill the job in the usual sense. They're actually hoping to find someone who can land a new, big account. These territory roles seem to be perpetually open, always searching for that next major sale. The first phone call felt almost confrontational. They use various online tests, but the results seem to confuse the interviewer. The main goal of the in-person interview is to place you in a territory that's already saturated with competing salespeople. The base pay is the lowest in the industry and actually goes down the longer you stay. Auto reimbursements are stuck in the 1990s; you end up subsidizing the company for thousands of miles driven each month. Don't even bother asking about diversity. Honestly, after going through their process, you'd probably hope they don't offer you the job.
- Given that we inform candidates about the job's difficulty and high failure rate, how do you envision yourself handling such an environment?
Sales Manager
The interview process was quite straightforward, starting with just a phone interview. It was a low-key initial discussion focused on my previous work experiences. The plan was to move on to an interview with a Regional Manager, followed by a panel interview. However, my participation stopped after the initial phone interview, after which I was required to complete several personality and IQ assessments.
- I was asked to take multiple tests that were not easy, including algebra and analogies.
Talent Acquisition Specialist
Submitted my resume, went through an application process, did some testing, had a phone screen, then had two interviews, first with the hiring manager and then a panel interview. Then got an offer and accepted, went through a background check and drug screen, and set a start date. After that, I chose my benefits and 401k plan.
- Is it possible for me to work full-time, in-house rather than as a contractor?
