First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Peet's Coffee.
Shift Lead
I went to drop off my application and the manager I talked to told me to come back the next day for a hiring event at the store for a Shift Lead role. When I got there the next day they had a sign-in sheet and they saw people in the order they arrived. Two store managers from nearby stores were conducting the initial interviews, and if they liked you, you stayed at the table and they called the store manager from the store that was hiring to interview you. Both of those interviews went really well. A lot of the questions weren't difficult at all. They also require a background check.
- How would you increase revenue and bring more customers to the store?
Operations Manager
I went through 6 interviews and got a verbal offer. They flew me from Philly to CA for a final in-person interview, which they called a 'formality.' I met with 5 people there and they said I'd get a written offer that same night. But then, nothing the next morning. The recruiter just said they decided to go another way. It felt pretty bad because they offered me the job verbally twice, promised an offer, and I traveled 3,000 miles for it. The whole thing was handled terribly and unprofessionally. Everything seemed fine during the interviews, but the way it ended was just awful.
- Can you share examples of behavioral questions related to your operations experience?
Shift Lead
I went to a group interview with other people who wanted the job. I signed in on a clipboard and had to wait to be called. They gave me a free drink while I waited. The interview was pretty friendly and they asked normal questions about my experience and what I wanted to do, and also asked me to show I know about sales. You don't need to have worked in food service or coffee shops before.
- How would you sell me something, if you had to?
