Software Engineer
So I got sent a link to do an exercise that took like over 2 hours. The task was about assigning passenger seats on an airplane, which was fine, and it had analysis and coding parts, which was also okay. But the way they set it up was just bad. The platform and instructions were not good, and it felt like they didn't care about my time. It was like a process where I had to do all the work without any real benefit to me.
- Could you design a system for assigning passenger seats on an airplane?
Software Engineer
It was a long but fulfilling process. I met with seven different people and had different conversations with them. Sometimes I did some system design, a code review. They accommodated my travel and paused the process for a week. Recruiter was prompt with all scheduling. I was also given a google doc with an overview of the entire process.
- We initially built some software on an online coding assessment and then had to review it with an engineer.
Software Engineer
First, I had a basic screening with a recruiter. She seemed really uninterested and tired, like she'd interviewed too many people. Then came a Byteboard coding test. The actual question was okay, but it felt like way too much stuff packed into not enough time, taking about 2 hours total. You start by reading a long technical design doc, answering questions, and talking about your thinking and any choices you made, then writing a summary. After that, you have to get familiar with some code and fix 3 coding problems, plus write tests. If you don't finish, you're supposed to note what you'd do with more time, but honestly, it still felt super rushed and difficult.
- Could you design a system for volunteer shift sign-ups?
- What were your thought process and tradeoffs when reviewing the technical design document?
- Please provide a conclusion based on the technical design document.
