Coding

So I got sent a link to do an exercise that took like over 2 hours. The task was about assigning passenger seats on an airplane, which was fine, and it had analysis and coding parts, which was also okay. But the way they set it up was just bad. The platform and instructions were not good, and it felt like they didn't care about my time. It was like a process where I had to do all the work without any real benefit to me.

I met with a bunch of the top dogs at Pearl, like the CEO and COO, and others. It was cool, everyone I talked to was really sharp and super focused on Pearl's mission to make healthcare more affordable.

Coding Case Behavioral

The hiring process included online coding challenges, a case study on a challenging data science problem, and meetings with leaders. The team at Pearl was welcoming and eager to discuss my background and their work. While the process was quick, they were understanding about any travel-related delays on my part.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So first there was a recruiter screen, then I met with a team member, then another team member. After that, I had a project to complete, and then I presented that project to some of the team members I'd already met. The interviews overall were good, and I liked everyone I spoke with, but the final project was pretty bad. It had two parts. The first was a 15-minute talk about a past project, covering the problem, objective, my role, the challenge, the solution, results, and lessons learned. The second part was a 45-minute presentation on establishing a 'Golden Ratio'. They said to prepare a presentation as if facilitating a working session with colleagues on how to tackle this challenge, making it interactive like a real work session to see how I'd structure my work. The prompt itself asked how to establish a 'golden ratio' for clients to relationship managers and how to develop processes for non-linear scaling, using an example of their current Support and CSM situation. This felt like asking how to squeeze more out of people, which is the opposite of good customer success. I made a presentation that offered multiple approaches based on company goals, but the meeting was super awkward. They kept asking 'how?' to everything, even after I gave legit examples like cohort grouping or streamlining customer interactions. They acted like I was wasting their time and brushed off my ideas, and I got no feedback on the project, making it a waste of time.
