First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PCA.
Forklift Operator
They asked me about my work ethic and how dedicated I am to a new job. Also asked if I could work by myself without much supervision, if I could do preventative maintenance on a forklift, and if I was okay with 12-hour shifts.
- What would you do if you saw someone working in an unsafe manner?
- Tell me about your work ethic and your commitment to a job.
- Are you okay with working alone with little or no supervision?
HR Manager
I sent in my application online and got a call back really quickly, within an hour. The person I spoke with was from Talent Acquisition and asked the usual stuff like, 'Tell me about yourself,' 'Why do you want to work at PCA,' and 'What are your salary expectations.' I made sure to answer everything clearly and professionally. This was on a Friday, and then on Monday, I got a rejection email with no explanation or feedback. It's weird because I totally fit the qualifications and had the right experience, and I thought I communicated well. It makes you wonder if the process is flawed or if there's some bias when a good candidate gets rejected right after a quick phone screen with no real interview or reason. My advice to management is that if PCA really wants good people, they need a better, more open hiring process. Rejecting people quickly without explaining why can hurt their brand and make people question if they're being evaluated fairly.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What motivates your interest in this role at PCA?
- What are your salary expectations for this position?
Procurement Forester
I was contacted and asked if I would be available for a teams interview. The interview was conducted by two people, who asked a list of questions from a page. The connection was poor at times, making it difficult to understand some questions. The interview felt very "to the point" and rehearsed, with no ice breaker / personal connection.
- Can you share an instance where you managed workplace conflict?
- Describe a time you collaborated with a coworker to pinpoint and resolve an issue.
Project Leader
After applying, I was contacted about a month later to set up an initial interview. It was a one-hour remote interview with two interviewers. One person didn't speak, just observed, while the other asked questions. These questions were either technically very simple or non-technical and open-ended, like 'Tell us about your developer journey?'. The role requires being on call 24/7 for one week every three months, with only a VOIP phone provided as a logistical explanation. The technical question asked was surprisingly basic, akin to asking an electrician about wire experience. The job primarily involves WinForms/WPF and some Blazor. There was no follow-up, and the same position was reposted shortly after. Reflecting on it, I'm glad I didn't proceed, as their interview approach, using a fixed list of questions, seemed disorganized and not very effective, as if they were following a script. This might be due to their own interview process, which as a former product manager, I found to be lacking in organic interaction.
- Given your current work in Blazor, what makes you interested in working with WinForms?
