Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PayJoy.
Software Engineer
It's a long process, but easy to go through, and it's all in English. Recruiters are attentive throughout and give feedback. The process is pretty standard: HR interview, technical interview, interview with the Engineering Hiring Manager, and finally an interview with the CTO. If all goes well, they send an offer.
- Tell me about your experience with Django.
- Solve a problem using the Sliding Window technique.
- Do you have issues working under stress?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved coding tests done on a whiteboard and via an online app. The recruiter was friendly, and the engineering team was polite. It was a lengthy process, but most engineering interviews tend to be. I felt good about the coding tasks and the outcomes.
- Write code and test it with a code review app
Senior Software Engineer
It was a long interview process, but the interviews themselves weren't stressful and didn't feel like they were trying to trip you up. The interviewers were all really nice and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. It was a straightforward and professional process, unlike some other places where interviews feel like they're just making it up as they go. The whole group of people interviewing me had specific questions to gauge my current knowledge and how I think. They asked about work scenarios, situations where I had to provide examples, or how I'd strategize to tackle something. There was also a take-home test to check my understanding of architecture, which they later discussed. Overall, the interviewers seemed to really care about bringing me on board to help the company succeed, which was a positive thing. The main challenge was just how long the entire process took.
- Can you describe a work scenario you experienced?
- Tell me about the take-home assessment.
- What are your thoughts on open-ended goals?
