Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Paycor.
Senior Manager
I applied online and a recruiter reached out super quickly for a phone screen. That recruiter was actually the best I've ever worked with – really polite, prompt, and gave me tons of info. After that, I had a chat with the hiring manager, which was pretty laid-back and short, mostly just discussing my experience. Sadly, I didn't get the job. The reason given was that they promoted someone internally, which makes me wonder how serious they were about my application. I get that it's common now for companies to interview outside candidates even when they plan to promote from within, but if that's what happened here, I hope they reconsider because it's a real bummer to feel like your time was wasted.
- Could you tell me about your experience managing teams and projects throughout your career?
Manager
First, there was a prescreen interview with the recruiter where they asked questions to see if you fit the job description and if your salary expectations were within the budget. Then, a second interview with the manager and team leader involved standard behavioral questions and situational questions to see how you solve problems. The third interview could be with a team leader and manager, or it might just depend on the hiring manager.
- Can you describe your approach to time management?
- Tell me about a time you had to manage your time effectively.
Implementation Manager
I had a phone chat with the HR recruiter that was really nice and mostly about my resume and past work. She moved me along pretty fast and sent me links for some personality and skills tests. She also set up in-person interviews with a VP and a Director for the next week, which were back-to-back. I emailed the recruiter a week after to check in, and she called me the next day to say they picked someone else who was further along. Even though I didn't get the offer, I liked their process and how quickly they responded. Seems like a good place.
- Could you elaborate on your resume and experience?
- Can you share an example of your experience managing people?
- What situations have you encountered managing people?
